Vitré, City of Madame de Sevigne

Ranked City of Art and History, Vitré has preserved a unique architectural heritage, memory of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries when it was one of the most important and powerful cities of Britain.


The chateau’s museum:
oused inside the chateau de Vitré, it was founded in 1876 by Arthur de la Borderie, a historian from Vitré, in the encyclopaedic spirit of the era. It is based on the presentation of the medieval fortified castle; it also displays decorative and historical elements of the architecture of Vitré.
